LONDON 1983_019

LONDON 1983_019

In 1983 I was engaged to be married in June when I received a call (no cells, texting or internet) from Maria Georgouses who asked if I was available to travel to London to photograph a group of real estate big wigs under the auspices of Jerry Reinsdorf, the owner of the Chicago Bulls and White Sox. The wedding was a couple of weeks away and guess what I said? Absolutely yes! Here is an edit of 35mm slides photos that were given to me that are here for your viewing pleasure.
In 1983 Queen Elizabeth reigned over the UK and its territories. Margaret Thatcher won her PM seat by a landslide and the punks were protesting austerity yet again on the streets of London and I was there to witness and photograph it. The 007 Octopussy film opened at The Royal World Charity Premiere of on June 6, 1983 at London's Odeon Leicester Square Theatre in the presence of British Royals King Charles III and Princess Diana of England. My photos of the Royals in attendance were photographed off of the BBC telly of the event as were the photos of Elvis Costello performing at Apple Studios. The photos also include the grounds at Windsor Castle, The Thames with Big Ben in the background, street photography of punks, pensioners and the ladies who lunch on Sloane Street where the Sloane Rangers shopped for the latest fashions that included HRH Princess Diana. Look for me with big blue glasses in front of Windsor Castle and in a photo at the Cypriot owned, Lord Byron Taverna and Wine Bar with the waiter from Cyprus whose name was George (see business cards) and my friends that include Maria Georgouses. I found the business cards that were added to the photos as ephemera. Included are photos of the red-light district in Soho where anything goes whether in film or live performances. Enter the world of London in 1983, you will not regret it!
