ROLL 2, ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE 1981_30

ROLL 2, ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE 1981_30

The Saint Patrick's Day Parade tradition in Chicago began in 1955. The dyeing of the Chicago River in a emerald green is sponsored by the Plumber's Union and remains that color for a day or two. These photographs were taken on March 17, 1981 during the administration of Mayor Jane Bryne who is featured in the reviewing stand. Her husband Jay McMullen is standing to her right while Cardinal Cody is on her left. The Irish community participates while the melting pot observes and cheers on the marchers.
