6200 BLOCK OF N. CLAREMONT APARTMENT 1974_02
In 1974 after living on the Southside for the 19 years of my life, we moved to Rogers Park while I was in college at the University of Illinois Chicago also known as UIC. In many ways the North and Southside have similar housing stock such as apartment buildings and bungalows that made the transition easy to absorb. In the first frames, my mother Georgia is preparing dinner in our third floor apartment located at 6215 N. Claremont, Chicago Illinois. In the next photo is the dining room with Mom's silver tea set wrapped in plastic, a cookie jar of Greek cookies known as koulourakia on my grandmother's beautifully crocheted tablecloth, and our Baldwin piano in the background. The next views are from the back porch of our three flat, looking out toward the alley and newly fallen snow on the rooftop of the garages. Subsequent photos of are of my bedroom where I had our old dining room table as my workspace while I was in college from 1972 to 1976 and my closet with posters of Jesus and a soccer team. And the following photos are of the kitchen, pantry and stove with a chair to keep the door closed.
