In 1978 Las Vegas still had it's old school charm with the architecture and entertainment that typified the era of the Rat Pack. The film is color negative with an ISO of 100 which did not yield the best result for night photography on the Las Vegas Strip. The night shots include the Dunes, Stardust, Aladdin and Flamingo and Hilton Casinos and hotels that have been since torn down or recently closed as in Circus Circus in 2024. From our room at the Riveria where Uncle John was able get our room comped because he was a high-rolling poker player you can see the interior lights of the room reflecting in the window while I captured the Las Vegas Strip with a sign advertising, Delta, Braniff and Trans World Airlines on the left and a marquee advertising a Lou Rawls, and in the lower right a Phillips 66 gas station. A very grainy photo of a bride and groom takes place at Caesar's Palace along with a vertical view of the statuary that surrounds the circular driveway and drop-off point in front of the hotel. My mother Georgia, said, "Las Vegas was built on losers and liars", and I certainly bought into that argument when I won a good amount of cash at the Blackjack tables at the Riviera and proceeded to lose it all and more at the VIP tables at Caesar's. Easy come, easy go! Additional advertisements for free circus acts, new money games (is that possible?) and other forms of enticement appear on the Circus Circus marquee. Moving on to Tucson, Arizona in the backyard of my Uncle John's house in Oro Valley are photos of my Godchild, Mia who was approximately 3 years old. Ever willing to pose for photos, here is Mia with a vintage Looney Tunes Bugs Bunny Talking Pull String Toy and dressed for a fun day in the bright sun of AZ. Her curls typify the hair in our Greek family and to this day in 2025, our next generation of decendants carry those curls to the present day. This was my first trip out to the Western regions of the United States where we continued the trip to Nogales, Mexico on the border of Arizona and my first trip to California visiting Los Angeles and Disneyland that can also be seen on the website listed under 1978. I was 23 years old and was dazzled by the new experiences with my cousin Jeanne and her friends from Chicago. The 1970s will never be repeated again for it's fun and excesses but if you asked me if I would like to re-experience that time frame, the answer is a resolute YES!
