The Chicago Bulls were at the epicenter of what basketball represented in the 1980s and 1990s. The games led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were riveting and we held our breath through the finals with every 3 pointer that would tie and win the game. On June 22, 1993 the fans lined up at the Petrillo Bandshell in Downtown Chicago to celebrate the Chicago Bulls Championship 3-Peat when they defeated the Phoenix Suns in a 4-2 sweep in the NBA finals. A press pass was granted because of my credentials as a photographer at the Field Museum that gave me full access in front of the team. Here are the 4 rolls of black and white Kodak T-Max film which I processed afterward in the museum darkroom. The celebration kicked off with George Wendt and Robert Smigel who were also known as Da Bulls Super Fans wearing grass skirts and coconuts over their tee shirts in Roll 1_ #14-22. In Roll 2_#07-19 you can see Red Kerr and Phil Jackson give their remarks, while Michael Jordan, Bill Cartwright and Scottie Pippen lift the trophies up for all to see as in Roll 2_#28-35. How quickly good fortunes change when on July 23, 1993 James Jordan, father of Michael Jordan was found dead in a South Carolina swamp. Michael retired from basketball before the 1993-94 seasons to play for the Chicago White Sox in Minor League Baseball before returning to the Bulls in 1995. He led them to three more championships in 1996, 1997 and 1998 for a total of six championships with the Chicago Bulls. Those were the days!
