DEEP TUNNEL, BURGER QUEEN, CTA 1978_00

DEEP TUNNEL, BURGER QUEEN, CTA 1978_00

The Deep Tunnel Project was under construction along McCormick and Devon Avenue in the West Ridge Neighborhood of Chicago to control storm water and sewage. It was billed as an anti-pollution campaign to mitigate sewage in residential basements and into Lake Michigan. Signage from Lincoln Village and Wiebolt's can be seen in #00-05 the background where I worked at Bronson Coles Studio as a photographer and darkroom printer. The Deep Tunnel Project was not off limits as seen in #03-04 where a man is enjoying his morning cigar while observing the construction project. The Deep Tunnel Project was also known as The Anti-Pollution Project as seen in signage with the construction worker in #06. The Deep Tunnel Project currently has a bike lane and playground equipment and Lincoln Village is a big draw for diners and shoppers. The young lady in #20-21 is referred to as Burger Queen. In #22 I am seated on the bus while taking a photo of the woman preparing to take a seat. While the bus is moving so is my camera at a low shutter speed, hence the camera shake. I have a knack for getting people to pose for me without hesitation. It is obvious when looking at #06-07 and #20-21 that there is a unhurried style of posing by my subjects. All that I can say is, thank you!
