1974 HALSTED CTA, CABRINI GREEN & SOUTH SHORE, CHICAGO
The streets on the Southside in the City of Chicago are fill with a curiosity of apartment buildings and bungalows that are mostly built of bricks because of the clay that is found in the soil of the Mid-Western states in the US. The neighborhood known as South Shore hugs the lakefront of Lake Michigan and gives us an opportunity to enjoy sunbathing, swimming and to participate in all of the water sports that you would expect on any large body of water. While a student of photography during my four years of college at the University of Illinois, Chicago from 1972-76 I explored the streets of the city and became a street photographer. My trusty companion was a camera that my father gifted me upon graduating from Bowen High School because I was always asking if I could borrow his camera. His was the Kodak Retina Reflex 11a and mine was the Kodak Retina Reflex 111c. Black and white film was inexpensive especially since I was bulk loading my film in reusable cannisters and processing film in the darkroom at the university. Explore the faces and locations of the 7800 block of South Ridgeland, 79th Street, Little Italy where I photographed kids playing basketball and the CTA bus in the Cabrini Green neighborhood of Chicago.
