ASPEN DESIGN CONFERENCE 1975_10
While a photo/design student at University of Illinois, Chicago, I traveled with a group of students went on a road trip to the Aspen Design Conference in June, 1975. We stopped in Denver and I took advantage of an urban environment to take a few photos. I especially like the photos of the Aladdin Theatre showing The Who's movie, Tommy. My college chums are in the photos with a cool vintage car that we traveled in and I love the man in the bar with the Bud sign behind his head. We drove to Aspen and set up camp at the majestic Maroon Bells mountains and lake that became our home over the next week. It was my first experience camping and photographing natural landscapes. In #01-15 you can see the town of Aspen that surrounded the Design Conference with a mixture of architectural styles of Victorian and A Frame ski lodges. My 1959 Kodak Retina Reflex 111c camera with a fixed 50mm lens handled the job just fine while my fellow students had SLRs with interchangeable lenses which was a style of the day. As I like to say, "I was the zoom lens that moved forward and back to capture what was necessary. In the end it is the desired esthetic result that matters. The Aspen Design Conference was set in a beautiful meadow that can be seen in #16-26 where we constructed tetrahedral kite with straws, string and plastic sheets. Hanging overhead are the Guatemalan Giant Kites (La Feria de Barriletes Gigantes) used to celebrated the Day of the Dead. We are back in the nine person tent in frames #27-#31 where I took a selfie of my in #31. The last two frames are of the Aspen Community United Methodist Church on 200 E. Bleeker St.
