1981 MEXICAN CIVIC SOCIETY PARADE, MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE
The Sociedad Civica Mexicano- Mexican Civic Society sponsored the Mexican Independence Day Parade on September 12, 1981. The parade processed down Michigan Avenue past the reviewing stand that was filled with dignitaries, business leaders and politicians that included the Grand Marshall, Jose Pletz. The participation was rich in Mexican heritage and history that included The Ballet Cultural Mexicano, The Mexican American Business and Professional Women's Club, Hermosa Republica Mexicana, Cermak Road Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Ballet Cultural Mexicano, Chicago Azteca Lions Club, mariachi bands, Mexican cowboys on horseback, Miss Mexico 1981-Judith Grace Gonzalez, Club de Futbol and the 18th Street Business Men’s Association. Included in the parade were the City Colleges of Chicago, WCIU Television Station, Rodeo Saloon, Linda Latina Cosmetics, the Aragon Ballroom featuring CBS, Julio Iglesias and Vickie Carr, Jalisco Terra del Charro, Notre Dame Church Sociedad Guadlupana and the City of Chicago-Department of Human Services under Mayor Jane Byrne. Costumes and traditional dress are worn throughout the parade. Who are the faces in the crowd and in the parade? Please help identify them for future generations.
