LEBANON, ATLANTIC CITY UNDER CONSTRUCTION 1980 (15)

LEBANON, ATLANTIC CITY UNDER CONSTRUCTION 1980 (15)

It was busy summer taking photos in Lebanon, Pennsylvania and Atlantic City in the summer of 1980. This is the third roll of color slides that I have scanned, much to my delight. We begin our trip in Lebanon, Pennsylvania where my Frank was born and still has family living there. I love traveling to Lebanon because it has a historic and old downtown area. There is a farmer's market, thrift stores, the famous Wertz's Candy that was family owned and unfortunately no longer. In the first couple of frames you'll see me and it looks like little Eric took the photos. Then I take my camera back and photograph Renee and Eric, who are brother and sister to Frank. We visit the family and travel onto New Jersey to see George and Lori. Going to the Jersey Shore and seeing Atlantic City is a treat especially for a girl who grew up in Chicago and Lake Michigan which is fresh water. You can see the construction workers lined up to get their lunch break food from the canteen wearing jeans and tee shirts. Then we move over to the casinos with a Bally's sign. The Ramada inn has primitive rendering of what the hotel will look like when it's completed. We stayed at a motel that had a pool and here is a photo of a guy cleaning it out. Next frame is another casino hotel and then the Tropicana is under construction in the next few frames. Atlantic City has had its ups and downs and currently it looks like it's on the upswing with tourists and shows. Have not been back for many years, maybe it's time to get a new batch of photos in the 2020s!
