ROLL 1, NHM One Year Anniversary, 09-04-1993_14

The National Hellenic Museum celebrated their one year anniversary on September 17, 1993. The first location of the museum was at the National Bank of Greece Building on Michigan Avenue on 168 N. Michigan Avenue. After the bank was closed the museum moved to the Greek Islands Restaurant Building in Chicago's Greektown. The current location for the National Hellenic Museum is in a purpose built state of the arts building in Chicago's Greektown located at 333 South Halsted Street. The exhibits on display in 1993 included Vignettes of Folk Art and The Greek Immigrant Experience curated by Theadora Vassils. The performance was organized by the Hellenic Cultural Organization with a poem called, The Handkerchief by Costa Kristalis. Attending the event were, Consul General Yannis-Alexis Zepos of Greece in Chicago (1992-1995), Event-Chair Daphne Zepos, Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago, Board Members included Evangeline Mistaras, Theadora Vassils, James Mezilson, Peter Regas, John Comet, Olga Garoufalis, Peter Regas, Madeline Gelis, Roula Alakiotou, President of the NHM Aris Halikias and Director of the NHM, Elaine Kollintzas Drikakis. In #15 is Andrew Athens and his wife Louise who spearheaded the effort to build the National Hellenic Museum on South Halsted Street.
