1976 BIG SNOW ON WESTERN & DEVON AVENUE, MARIA ALEXANDER & WARREN PARK

The kids had a snow day and so did I from college in a freak snow storm in April 1976. My sojourn started on Claremont Street where I lived with my parents while attending UIC, also known as Circle and now as University of Illinois, Chicago. The woman with a shovel is unaware of my taking her photo as she labored inch by inch to lift the weight of the snow to clear the sidewalk. I can tell you that snow shoveling is laborious because my husband Frank is diligent about snow removal as are all of our neighbors on Washtenaw Avenue. When our kids were younger they helped out but alas it's up to us in our golden years. Ugh! Moving on toward Rosemont and Western Avenue were three boys who were burning up energy running up and down the piles of snow. Imagine how hot they must have felt to the point they are sitting in the snow! Love their football swag with Steelers and Packers jackets whose teams are still our nemesis as Chicago Bears fans. Bear down, Chicago Bears as they say. Then onto a couple of artful photos of branches trees and shadows at Warren Park. Finishing up with photos of my sister, Maria who at this time was 17 years old. Shortly after this storm cleared up we moved further west to Devon and Kedzie but that is another tale for another day.
p.s. by June of 1976 I graduated UIC and started my new job as a photographer at Bronson Coles Studio a few blocks away from our new digs. God has his plans!
