1974 TURKS GET OUT OF CYPRUS DEMONSTATION
On August 19, 1974 I photographed the demonstration against the invasion of Cyprus by Turkish forces that took place on Michigan Avenue, Chicago. Demonstrators convened at the Conrad Hilton when President Gerald Ford arrived to speak to the convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to protest the American government’s response to the invasion. President Ford can be seen in frame Roll 1_#35 and #36. The demonstrators carried signs and walked in lock step and stopped car traffic as they continued up Michigan Avenue and had a sit down as seen in Roll 2_#31. The protest finished at the Richard J. Daley Center with speeches and songs of liberty.
