The first photos are of the countryside surrounding Phestus which is the second most important sight of Minoan culture (1900BC) and the man who sold us snacks near the entrance to the antiquities. The following photos are all of the wedding at our hotel where we were invited us to join the festivities especially when they learned we were Greek Americans and could speak the language. We danced the sirto and sousta while imbibing in the famous raki (similar to ouzo) when mixed with water becomes a anisette tasting high proof beverage. The last two photos are of the bus that would take us back to Iraklion to fly back to Athens and the two women, one who is smiling and the other clearly a widow wearing her black head scarf. Crete was beautiful, unspoiled with delicious food and Incredibly loving people. Was it because we could speak Greek? I find out much later that my family originally came from the island of Crete. Because our last name was Alexandrakis and people with the last name ending in akis are from Crete. The more you know!
