BLACK FEST COLUMBUS PARK 1981_10
The year of 1981 was a celebration of ethnic culture throughout the city of Chicago in all neighborhoods. Included in the vast number of events was Black Fest that took place on June 21, 1981 in Columbus Park. The Temptations were the headliners with opener Jimmy Cliff. The skies opened to a rain storm and that is when the umbrellas opened up but that did not deter the Black Fest attendees. They looked for cover where ever they could and watched The Temptations hit the stage for their greatest hits and deep cuts. It was a day to remember in spite of the fact that there is little to be seen on the internet that captures the day that Chicago danced to the music in Columbus Park.
