DIANE SELFIES, MYLAR SUNGLASSES, CITYSCAPE, 6-1975_20_resize

In 1975 we moved to Rogers Park after living in South Shore for many years. It was exhilarating to live in a neighborhood filled with young people and plenty of bars to keep them occupied. Because of the Vietnam War soldiers were allowed to go into bars at age 19 and that included all young Americans. We lived in a 3 flat on a third floor which is why you are looking at the scenes from the back porch of a dramatic sky over an alley. The self portraits were taken with a Kodak Retina camera was gifted to me by my father who was an avid photographer and I set up one of his studio lamps to illuminate the portraits. The art work with the columns was a watercolor my father purchased on a family trip to Greece in 1972 and is a view of the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion. I had purchased the recycled blue jean blazer at a shop that specialized in recycled jeans on Devon and Newgard Avenue. I remember trying it on and saying this is for me. Now my daughter Alex white wears the blazer and enjoys it as much as I did. The series of self-portraits was for fun and scanning after so many years it is fun to see my quirky expressions. Thank you for reading my description!
