Here is a small selection of historic homes in Oak Park, Illinois that I photographed while a student at the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1975 . My cousin Jeanne lived in River Forest and we spent a lot of time in Oak Park combing the alleys for tossed out furniture and garage sales on the weekends for her consignment shop. Frame #1 and 44 are the same house with the older woman. Frames #2, 3 and 4 are evocative of the the architect Louis Sullivan who's credo for buildings is that they must be, "solid, useful and beautiful." The ornamentation on this home is extraordinary and hand-hewn by master stonemasons. The other structure in frame #43 says it is the Unity Temple. Is this the same Unity Temple of Frank Lloyd Wright's? From the appearance of the blooming dogwood and irises these photographs were taken in late spring. Thank you for your time!
